Protection Policies — Explained

What are dental plans?

Dental plans are healthcare policies designed to help manage the cost of routine and preventative dental care. Unlike private medical insurance, which focuses on specialist medical treatment and hospital care, dental plans are specifically designed to support your oral health by contributing towards regular dental expenses.

Depending on the provider and level of cover, a dental plan can help with the cost of check-ups, hygienist appointments and certain dental treatments, making it easier to budget for ongoing dental care.

WHAT IS IT?

Dental plans at a glance

Dental plans work by providing either fixed benefits towards eligible dental treatment or by reimbursing costs up to the limits set within your policy. The level of cover available varies between providers, with some plans focusing on routine preventative care while others also contribute towards restorative treatments.

Many dental plans include benefits for regular examinations, hygienist visits, fillings and emergency dental treatment. Some providers may also offer access to a nationwide network of dentists, discounted treatment fees or additional oral health services.

Because dental plans are designed specifically for dental care, they can offer a practical way to spread or reduce the cost of maintaining good oral health throughout the year.

How it works with your policy

Dental plans are separate from private medical insurance but can complement it by helping with one of the most common healthcare expenses that PMI doesn't usually cover.

Whether purchased on their own or alongside a wider health insurance policy, dental plans can provide additional financial support for routine dental care and help encourage regular preventative treatment.
